Culture, Coffee & the Pacific Coast

Move from Panama City’s culture and Canal to Boquete’s highlands and a private Pacific estate.

DAYS: 11

DESTINATIONS:
Begin in Panama City with behind-the-scenes access at the Canal, an evening in Casco Viejo and time spent with the Emberá, an Indigenous people of eastern Panama. Fly west to Boquete to taste Geisha coffee with the producers at Elida Estates, then continue by private charter to the Pacific coast. Settle into Ama Estancia for days of horseback riding, biking, surfing, time on the water and open space to enjoy together. Designed with families and multigenerational groups in mind, the journey balances culture, nature, food and active days with time to slow down.
Touch down in Panama City and settle into Hotel La Compañía, your base for the next three nights. Take the rest of the day at your own pace after arriving, ready to begin exploring the capital tomorrow.

Overnight: Hotel La Compañía

Day 1: Welcome to Panama City
Go behind the scenes at the Panama Canal with an expert guide, learning how the original locks were built and stepping into areas normally closed to the public. Watch massive ships move through the locks and, weather permitting, get an even closer view of the Canal at work. Later, head into Casco Viejo after dark, moving between a curated selection of bars and rooftops for cocktails, live music and skyline views as the historic district comes alive.

Overnight: Hotel La Compañía

Day 2: Explore the Canal and Casco Viejo After Dark
Travel into the rainforest to spend time with the Emberá community, part of an Indigenous people whose homeland lies in eastern Panama. Learn about daily life, traditions and the community’s relationship with the surrounding land through music, storytelling and handwoven crafts. Share lunch together and spend time listening, learning and exchanging stories before returning to Panama City.

Overnight: Hotel La Compañía

Day 3: Spend the Day with the Emberá
Fly west from Panama City to David before continuing into the mountains of Boquete. Settle into Valle Escondido Wellness Resort, tucked into a valley beneath Volcán Barú and surrounded by gardens, mountain views and flowing water. Spend the rest of the day settling into the cooler highland setting.

Overnight: Valle Escondido Wellness Resort

Day 4: Head into the Boquete Highlands
Head into the foothills of Volcán Barú for a private visit to Elida Estates. Meet the producers and follow the coffee process from harvest through to packing before sitting down for a VIP tasting. Compare different processes and varieties, including Catuai and renowned Geisha coffee, then try tea made from the coffee husk while taking in the surrounding highland landscape.

Overnight: Valle Escondido Wellness Resort

Day 5: Taste Geisha Coffee at Elida Estates
Leave Boquete and fly by private charter toward Pedasí, trading the highlands for Panama’s Pacific coast. Continue to Ama Estancia, a private oceanfront estate set between jungle and sea. Settle into the expansive indoor and outdoor spaces, take your first swim in the 25-meter infinity pool and watch the Pacific stretch out below.

Overnight: Ama Estancia

Day 6: Fly to the Pacific Coast
Wake to rose-colored skies and pelicans diving through the surf before setting out on horseback through the landscapes surrounding Ama Estancia. Follow private trails through the greenery, pausing for fresh coconut water beneath the palms and keeping watch for howler monkeys overhead. Ride toward higher ground for wide views across the peninsula before returning to the estate for time by the pool.

Overnight: Ama Estancia

Day 7: Explore the Estate on Horseback
Spend the morning surfing the Pacific, heading into the waves from Ama Estancia’s coastal setting and making the most of time on the water. Return to the estate for lunch and a break by the cliffside pool, with the option to head back out for more surfing later in the day. As the sun begins to drop, gather for sundowners overlooking the ocean before dinner.

Overnight: Ama Estancia

Day 8: Surf the Pacific Coast
Explore another side of the estate by bike, following private trails through its coastal-jungle ecosystem. Ride beneath palms and jungle trees, look for howler monkeys moving through the canopy and stop along the way to take in views across the surrounding landscape.

Overnight: Ama Estancia

Day 9: Ride the Jungle Trails by Bike
Spend your final full day heading out from Ama Estancia by boat, leaving the estate behind for time on the Pacific and a different perspective on the surrounding coastline. Follow the shoreline from the water, take in the scale of the landscape and enjoy the simple pleasure of being out at sea with the coast unfolding around you. Return to the villa later in the day before gathering for sundowners and a candlelit dinner on the South Terrace, bringing everyone together for one last evening overlooking the ocean.

Overnight: Ama Estancia

Day 10: Head Out on the Water
Leave Ama Estancia and fly by private charter from Pedasí back to Panama City. Continue to Tocumen International Airport for your onward flight, bringing a journey through Panama’s culture, highlands and Pacific coast to a close.
